Appetite for Adventure

I have exciting news. In three short days Charlie will be returning from Greece! What a strange journey that country has taken us on. It taught me to appreciate America at a time when I was convinced that it was not a place I wanted to live anymore. It made me realize how solid my relationship with Charlie is and how unbelievably lucky we are to get the opportunity to live our lives in an "alternative" way.

This weekend was filled with dog walks and fetching along the river, slow-cooker Balsamic Roast Beef French Dip sandwiches, working on Gutsy Traveler advertising and a lovely trip to Truckee, CA. For those of you who don't know, Truckee is a small mountain town near Lake Tahoe. The quaint downtown strip is lined with cozy diners and carefully-curated stores with products like hand-carved cribbage boards, Pendleton blankets and whisky-scented aftershave. We tasted infused olive oils and vinegars at Tahoe Oil and Spice, deciding on a peppery California-grown EVOO and cranberry pear and peach-infused balsamic vinegars.

My new favorite little-bit-of-everything store in Truckee, Bespoke, had an excellent selection of adventure literature. I settled on a book by legendary mountaineer John Muir about his exploration of Alaska with a little mutt named Stickeen. It was a quick read and whetted my appetite for some more exploring in this great country of ours.

I am working on convincing Charlie to go on a little road trip when he returns. I am dying to go to Joshua Tree and hit some spots like Yosemite, Mono Lake and Death Valley on our way down. Wish me luck!
