Where is the SNOW?! We went on a muddy hike in Reno while visiting Charlie's parents. The dogs played on the half-melted ice over the stream while we attempted to scrape off the layers of mud weighing our boots down. I almost wiped out several times since the trail was narrow, slanted and covered in mud and ice.
Though the hike was less than ideal, we did enjoy a perfect lunch. Taking a cue from my days as Catering Assistant at Specialty's Cafe and Bakery, I made a twist on a classic: PB & Stuff. Use a nutty wheat bread and spread peanut butter (my favorite is MaraNatha Organic No Stir Peanut Butter) on both sides. Add a layer of sliced bananas and apples on one piece of bread, and any sort of jam or jelly to the other (I prefer blackberry jam). Bring some carrots and sliced bell peppers along to snack on, and you're good to go.
The forecast keeps teasing us with chances of snow, but so far nada. With the lack of precipitation and a week delay on Charlie's departure for Turkey, it may be time to head to Big Basin Redwoods State Park to meet up with our Bay Area friends for some much-needing camping!
